Off-road enthusiasts, this is it: the first photos of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler. Jeep released official images of the redesigned "JL" generation of the venerated SUV — not to be confused with the prior-generation Wrangler "JK," which Jeep will also sell for the 2018 model year. The 2018 Wrangler's full reveal comes Nov. 29 at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The photos confirm the styling we saw in an owner's manual and user guide leaked in October, which is to say Jeep didn't reinvent the Wrangler's iconic styling. The updates come in myriad details: The Wrangler's detached front bumper has flared outboard openings, continuing a theme we saw in some versions of the prior-generation Wrangler Rubicon. Lighting elements that appear to incorporate turn signals sit on the forward edges of the front fenders. A seven-slot grille and round headlights remain, but the lights have intricate detailing — including some horizontal framework in Jeep's sole front image, which showed a four-door Wrangler Unlimited Sahara. Jeep promises squared taillights and "dozens" of door, top and windshield combinations.
The two photos of a two-door Wrangler Rubicon, meanwhile, indicate the SUV's flip-down windshield and removable doors stuck around for hardcore off-roaders. Jeep promises "advanced fuel-efficient powertrains" and "more open-air options" as well as better aerodynamics and more safety technology in the new Wrangler; stay tuned for full details and some up-close impressions when we see it in Los Angeles.
